Soap Nut Instructions

Shells
: For laundry, place 3-5 whole shells (6-10 halves) and tie in washbag. Reuse shells 4 to 8 times. (Hang washbag to dry between washings.)

Liquid: Break 8 soap nuts in 6 cups of water. Bring to a boil; reduce heat, simmer for 30 minutes. Let cool, strain off liquid, it is ready to use! (Use within a week of making.)

Cold Liquid Method: Place 8-10 soap nuts in the bottom of a container (example: ketchup bottle), fill up with warm water. Let set for 1 hour, then the liquid is ready to use. Use approx. ¼ cup per load of laundry. When liquid is gone, fill with warm water again. As long as it produces suds, keep using the same soap nuts, once it is no longer producing suds, replace soap nuts with new ones. Only make up what can be used within a week at one time.
